The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held consultations with representatives of Somali civil society organizations as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen citizen engagement and advance the country’s democratic transition, state-building agenda, and national development priorities.
The discussions focused on progress achieved in security, governance reforms, institution-building, and preparations for direct elections based on the principle of one person, one vote.
President Hassan Sheikh reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to completing Somalia’s democratic transition and building inclusive institutions that respond to the aspirations of the Somali people.
The President underscored the indispensable role of civil society in strengthening democratic governance, safeguarding national unity, and promoting active public participation in decision-making processes. He noted that the Government continues to prioritize institutional development, improved public service delivery, and the establishment of a credible and transparent electoral system that expands citizens’ democratic rights.
The meeting provided an opportunity for civil society representatives to share their perspectives and recommendations on strengthening democratic governance, enhancing transparency and accountability, accelerating service delivery, and deepening cooperation between government institutions and the Somali public.
The engagement reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to inclusive dialogue and partnership with civil society as Somalia continues its journey toward sustainable peace, democratic governance, and long-term national development.
