Mogadishu, Somalia– His Excellency President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud today signed the ratified Defense and Economic Cooperation Agreement between the Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Türkiye. This historic agreement, passed by both houses of Federal Parliament, marks a significant step in Somalia’s journey towards a secure and prosperous future.
The agreement demonstrates a shared commitment to combating all forms of illegal activities. It will also support Somalia in developing a capable naval force, essential for safeguarding its maritime security. Additionally, the pact aims to bolster Somalia’s blue economy, develop crucial economic sectors, and create opportunities for the Somali people and the wider region.
“We express our deep gratitude to the brotherly Republic of Türkiye for their unwavering and timely support. They remain committed to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region,” stated President Hassan Sheikh.
