Mogadishu, June 06, 2024. The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, warmly welcomed Somalia’s election to a two-year term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
President Mohamud emphasized that this achievement reflects Somalia’s progress and growing influence, stating, “Somalia’s election to the UN Security Council is a testament to the remarkable progress our nation has made and the trust the international community has placed in us. As we sit at the Council, Somalia reaffirms its commitment to promoting peace, strengthening global security, and fostering international cooperation.”
Furthermore, President Mohamud expressed gratitude to Somalia’s diplomatic missions to the United Nations and African Union, conveying sincere appreciation to all nations that supported Somalia’s candidacy.
President Hassan Sheikh reaffirmed Somalia’s resolute commitment to assuming an active and constructive role on the global stage while continuing its path towards recovery, growth, and development.
