Mogadishu, May 26, 2022: The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has today hosted Ambassador Mohamed Ahmed Al Othman, the United Arab Emirates envoy to Somalia, at the presidency, Villa Somalia.
President Hassan Sheikh expressed thanks to the United Arab Emirates government and Ambassador Al Othman for their generous donation of $ 9.6 million to boost the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to address the drought-related challenges affecting the citizens.
H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud reemphasized that urgently resolving the drought challenges, including the delivery of international aid to the people of Somalia affected by the drought, is a top priority for the government.
The President further highlighted that the Government had already assigned a Special Presidential envoy for Drought Response, which reflected its commitment to addressing the drought.
Finally, H.E President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud urged partners and members of the international community to extend their full support to the Government and the people of Somalia as the country makes efforts to tackle the climate-driven drought challenges.
Hon. Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame, the Special Presidential Envoy for Drought Response was also present during the meeting.
