The two leaders discussed Somalia’s top priorities, including drought relief efforts, security, and the need for long-term solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has expressed his commitment to the fight against terrorism and the country’s stability, and he has shared with the Secretary-General of the United Nations on the combined efforts of the Somali people and the national security forces to rid the country of terrorism.
The UN Secretary-General welcomed the President’s perspective on the restructuring of development projects in the country, emphasizing the World Body’s readiness to base their projects on the President’s proposals and recommendations, as well as fast-tracking the international community’s role in the drought emergency.
The Secretary-General praised the Somali people and government for their commitment to economic development, debt relief, and rebuilding critical infrastructure, and pledged to help Somalia in finding solutions to the country’s recurrent drought and flooding challenges.
Finally, President Hassan Sheikh expressed gratitude to the Secretary-General and the United Nations for the World Body’s role in Somalia, underscoring the importance of its continued support for the Somali people.
