President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in New Alamein City, Egypt, to kick off his official working visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt at the invitation of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. The President was officially welcomed by his counterpart at the Al-Alamein Presidential Palace in New Alamein City, where he inspected a guard of honor and witness the performance of national anthems of both countries.
The two Heads of State engaged in wide-ranging and constructive discussions aimed at deepening the historic and strategic ties between Somalia and Egypt. The deliberations covered key areas of mutual interest, including regional security, bilateral trade, education, health, and military cooperation, with a strong emphasis on strengthening people-to-people relations.
President El-Sisi announced Egypt’s decision to reopen its embassy in Mogadishu in the near future, underscoring Egypt’s unwavering commitment to enhancing diplomatic engagement and elevating bilateral relations with Somalia.
Speaking along side his counterpart at a joint press briefing, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud lauded Egypt’s longstanding support for Somalia, particularly in the fields of diplomacy, capacity building, counterterrorism, and institutional development. He reaffirmed Somalia’s determination to further solidify its strategic partnership with Egypt and accelerate the implementation of the bilateral cooperation agreement signed in August 2024.
President El-Sisi, for his part, reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for the Federal Government of Somalia and commended its efforts to foster national unity, promote sustainable development, and combat terrorism.
President Mohamud expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Egypt for the generous hospitality extended to his delegation and emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration to advance shared aspirations for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
