The National Consultative meeting convened by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has ended today in Villa Somalia, Mogadishu.
The two-day summit, anchored on the spirit of the President’s pledge of “Somali at peace with itself”, was aimed towards enhancing goodwill and cooperation, building trust and strengthening consultation between the Federal government and the Federal member States.
The leadership consultative council meeting, which was attended by the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Mohamed Hussein Roble, and the Federal Member States’ Presidents; H.E Said Abdullahi Deni, H.E Ahmed Mohamed Islam, H.E Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen), H.E Ahmed Abdi Kariye, H.E Ali Gudlawe Hussein and Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of Benadir H.E Omar Mohamud Mohamed (Filish), began by congratulating H.E President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud following his inauguration as the 10th President of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The Council prayed for the President’s success and pledged him their full support during his service delivery to the nation. The leaders complimented H.E President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for organizing the National Consultative meeting within a short period; terming it an expression of his genuine political will and commitment.
Finally, The National Consultative Meeting adopted the following;
- COMPLETION OF THE STATE-BUILDING STRUCTURE.
Pursuant to the annexation of the 27 May 2021 Agreement for the Completion of the Somali State Building, reached by the National Consultative Meeting, the Council has adopted to focus on and prioritize the following:
- Drafting and timely Completion of the Constitutional review process, making it inclusive of all levels of Government and the civil society while building on the achievements of the Constitutional re-enactment process.
- The Council underscored the significance of finalizing the national security process such as strengthening the army and fighting terrorism.
- The council unanimously agreed to have a unified elections system to facilitate democratic elections in the country.
- The Council resolved to undertake political and social reconciliation and to resolve the disputes that have derailed the government.
- The Council agreed in unison to prioritize political dialogue between the Federal Government and Somaliland.
- The Council agreed on the establishment, acceleration and finalization of the federal system to make it independent to the district level, and to decentralize governance.
- The Council agreed to undertake the completion an independent, transparent and accountable judiciary that can fulfil the needs of the Somali people.
2. DROUGHT SITUATION
The Council agreed to join hands in assisting the Somali people affected by the drought, to put in place measures to counter recurring disasters, and to find a long-term solution.
The Council also calls for a united front in mitigating the current drought situation in the country.
The Council also urges the Somali people and international partners to play their part in to assist in addressing the ongoing drought in the country.
