20th October 2024, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, paid a working visit to the Republic of Burundi at the invitation of His Excellency Evariste Ndayishimiye, President of Burundi. The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations, reviewed cooperation on security, and discussed the African Union’s mission in Somalia, regional stability, and Somalia’s integration into the East African Community. Both presidents also underscored the importance of supporting Somalia’s security forces and the ongoing AU Mission. Additionally, they addressed regional and international security issues, particularly in the Horn of Africa, the Eastern DRC, and Sudan. The communique concluded with a commitment to further collaboration, including the establishment of the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation.
