Highlights of President Hassan Sheikh’s Remarks at the 1st May Town Hall Meeting

The Fight Against Al-Shabaab: We have pushed Al-Shabaab from the riverine and coastal areas; they are now in central locations… Today, thank God, a car leaving Jowhar can safely arrive in Mogadishu without fear. – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Legislation: For the first time in history, the Somali Parliament has simultaneously passed 11 pieces of legislation, most of which are fundamental to security, debt relief, investment, and statehood. This demonstrates their ongoing hard work. – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
Laascaanood: Our top priority is to cease the ongoing conflict, stop the bloodshed, and then sit down together and discuss. We have a special appreciation for the people of Lasanod as they hold onto the blue flag and strive for unity.

Puntland: Currently, we have delegated three regional Presidents to listen to their concerns. There is nothing that we are aware of or have shared with each other regarding their objections.

The Status of Mogadishu: The main obstacle is security; without strengthening it, we cannot eliminate the threats posed by terrorism in the capital. Following that, we will work on development and administration.

International Relations: We have no conflict with anyone, and we are even ready to participate in their reconciliation.

Separation of Powers: The Prime Minister’s powers are defined by the country’s constitution. The President’s Office is responsible for providing guidance and direction, and the Cabinet is responsible for implementing the tasks.

Elections: It is our intention not to return to the Afisyone Tent for elections; the government is firmly committed to a one person, one-vote election. Today marks the beginning of the roadmap for 2026
