The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has today appointed Hon. Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame as a Special Envoy for Somalia’s Drought response.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud named Mr. Abdirahman for the role owing to his extensive experience and understanding of humanitarian and development fields including policy delivery.
The announcement signals H.E the President’s prioritization of resolving drought challenges given its enormity as climate-related shocks continue to impact the lives and livelihoods of the citizens.
Mr. Abdishakur shall be tasked with working nationally, regionally and internationally with all partners and stakeholders to find sustainable solutions to mitigate and enable our citizens overcome the worst impacts of the drought in Somalia at the earliest possible opportunity.
The President wished him well in his new role and urged him to spearhead government response, coordinate and advocate for international assistance in this urgent matter at this critical time.
