Mogadishu, May 6, 2023 – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud met with Ambassador Dafcallah Al-Hajj Ali, the Special Envoy from the Sudanese Supreme Council, on May 6, 2023. The meeting focused on the Federal Government of Somalia’s concerns about the ongoing armed escalation in Sudan.
During the discussions, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud highlighted the historical brotherly ties between Somalia and Sudan. He urged all Sudanese parties to cease hostilities and engage in dialogue to reach a peaceful resolution. The President also reiterated the Federal Government of Somalia’s commitment to supporting peace, unity, and constitutional institutions in Sudan.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud affirmed that the Federal Republic of Somalia, as a member of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the African Union, and the United Nations agencies, will continue to uphold the sovereignty and stability of Sudan.
The Federal Government of Somalia remains committed to its call for peace, unity, and stability in Sudan and will actively support all efforts aimed at achieving these objectives.
